Any time the word surgery is mentioned, careful consideration should always be given to all aspects of the procedure you have chosen. Here are some special questions to ask about breast implant or breast lift surgery:

  1. Am I prepared for breast surgery?
  2. Will my implants fill my breasts or lift my breasts?
  3. Who is the best surgeon for me?
  4. What kind of care is needed after my surgery?

What Is the Best Size of Breast Implants for My Surgery?

Every person’s body is different and there are many options to consider when having breast implant or lift surgery. At Nuveen Cosmetic & Reconstructive Surgery, in order to assure proper sizing, we have patients try on breast implants in our office before surgery. We encourage our patients to bring a favorite shirt in order to see how clothes look with your new implant size. We allow our patients, not the doctor, to choose their own size of implants. This method of implant selection has proven nearly perfect in over 4,000 cases to date of achieving patient satisfaction. Dr. Nuveen simply prevents you from selecting a size that is either too small to justify the expense and minimal risk or too large for your frame and to minimize droop over time. We are dedicated to providing the best quality of service and care available in breast implant and breast lift surgery possible. Breast implant surgery is routinely performed with intravenous sedation and local anesthesia in under 30 minutes. No need for a ventilator or breathing tube for this surgery.

Would Breast Lift Surgery Help Me?

Breasts may have fallen or shrunk in size after having had children, from significant weight loss, or simply from aging. Women choose to have breast lift surgery due to empty or drooping breasts or low nipple or areola position. Breast lift surgery, most commonly performed with a breast implant to fill the empty breast, raises the areola by removing the extra tissue at the bottom of the breast and repositioning the breast mound higher on the chest. In modern breast lift surgery, the nipple is never removed or cut from the body.
Surgery for a breast lift is always performed on an outpatient basis, and heals fairly quickly; women are usually able to return to work within a week of the breast lift procedure. Every person is different in their recovery, but most patients that have undergone breast implant surgery will take three to five days to return to normal daily living.

What Is Involved in Breast Lift Surgery?

Breast lift surgery is performed in a variety of ways, depending on the severity of the problem and the desired result. However, the most common breast lift surgery is the procedure in which one vertical incision is made below the nipple. This allows Dr. Nuveen to access the breast tissue below the skin and reshape the breast. The areola is then reshaped but never removed from the breast. Breast implants are very commonly used simultaneously to achieve increased upper breast fullness and this need will be determined on examination. The entire procedure of breast lift with breast implants takes an average of one hour and is completed with intravenous medications without the need for placement of a breathing tube or use of a breathing machine. This technique reduces risks and speeds recovery and increases patient satisfaction.

Breast lifts are also best performed after you have had children; this will increase the longevity of the results. The best techniques for your ideal outcome of breast lift surgery depend on a patient’s body and breast type and will be discussed in consultation.

Breast Implants or Breast Lift or Both?

Breast lift surgery is an effective way to achieve a more youthful look, but some women are hesitant to have a breast lift because they do not want their breasts to be smaller after surgery. That’s why it’s important you know that breast lift surgery is routinely combined with breast implants to increase breast size at the same time the lift is performed. Modern research and our practice have confirmed that there are equal risks of complications doing the lift separately or at the same time as implant surgery. In over 500 cases, complications have remained minimal.
