Why is it important to see a Board Certified Cosmetic Surgeon?
Not all surgeons advertising cosmetic procedures have the same training. Most states only require someone to graduate from medical school to call themselves a "plastic surgeon". This does not in any way indicate qualityof the provider, proper education or experience in performing even one case of cosmetic surgery during formal training. Board certification by the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery requires not just training in general and cosmetic surgery but, also rigerous oral and written examinations on exclusively cosmetic surgery. The board requires its doctors to have extensive continuing education to keep abreast of the latest cosmetic surgery procedures. The board also monitors the ethics of its doctors to be sure that the patient's wellbeing always comes first.
Dr. Nuveen is not only certified by two surgical boards (the American Board of Oral/ Maxillofacial Surgery and the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery) and has completed the highest level of fellowship training available in the United States in cosmetic surgery. He is an examiner for the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery. This means that he has been elected and honored to be one of the few physicians in the United States to provide verbal testing to the candidates who want to become Board Certified. This privlege and honor allows Dr. Nuveen to be part of extremely important process of examining and certifying candidates who desire to become Board Certified in the specialty of Cosmetic Surgery.
Although Board Certification is only one method a patient should consider when evaluating surgeons for their care, it is the only Board that certifies physicians in exclusively cosmetic surgery. After all, it's all we do and all we have ever done!
