Natural Looking Breasts…
Most women who want bigger breasts also want to be assured that their breasts will be very natural looking after their breast augmentation surgery. Research and our vast surgical experience have revealed advantages and disadvantages to each surgical technique. No one technique is right for every patient. Some physicians perform breast augmentation surgery by placing the breast implant over the muscle. An advantage to this is less discomfort, and a quicker recovery. Some physicians believe in placement of the implant under the muscle. They contend that while the muscle does constrict and move the implant somewhat and healing time is longer, the result is a more natural looking breast. They also say that the breast implant under the muscle provides more coverage of the implant in a thin skinned, small breasted woman.
Dr. Nuveen's approach is different. His surgery uses what he calls a muscle sandwich or intramuscular. This technique places the implant so that there is muscle above the implant and a small portion of muscle below the implant. This provides all the advantages of increased coverage of the implant in thin skinned, smaller breasted women, while minimizing the period of recovery and movement that occurs with the implant completely below the muscle.
